Echometry (Ehos + Metron = Sound + Measure)

Echometry is a MUSIC THEORY and a TEACHING SYSTEM

With Echometry ... Music is EASY to UNDERSTAND

Have you ever wondered what 'music' - the word itself means?

"Mouses" were nine beautiful women who lived in old Greece, their beauty having been so unique,
they are still mentioned today... We call them "the Muses."

I would dare to suggest that the word 'mousa' -> 'mousikh' -> music has nothing to do
with the actual sound of any instrument or human voice.

Why then do we call the sounds of the instruments and of the human voice ..."mousikh?"

For the purpose of describing the qualities of the sound allow me to call the process
'hxometria' from the word 'hxos' = sound and 'metron' = measure (echometry).

Hxometria is the science of sound interaction.

In order to measure the sound we will utilize a device called 'Hxocyklos' = echocycle = sound wheel.

The sound wheel looks exactly like a clock without the hands. It has twelve positions --
exactly as many notes as the 'dodecatonon' which are
the twelve notes that musicans refer to as the 'chromatic' scale.

A familiar shape ...

Which we think of as a clock ...

DODECATONON = 12

It's Greek for twelve tones

A Greek word ... Looks like a clock with the one on the top ...

Traditional theory calls this the KEY or ROOT NOTE or the TONAL CENTER
ECHOMETRY  uses “ Point Of Reference"

Once we have our 'sound clock'we can color them to
instantly create our major or minor scales.

Even better, all you have to do is remember a
phone number within the number twelve.

Imagine if you 'dialed' a phone number on your guitar
(just like dialing a phone number)
and instead of people answering they will be
speechless at your guitar playing !!

The  example ( LEFT) 1-3-5-6-8-10-12  is the NUMBER IDENTITY of THE MOST POPULAR scale called THE MAJOR SCALE!

Traditional music theory tells us that the Major scale is
laid out in 1/2 steps like so:

1- W- W- H- W- W- W- H- (1)

They just laid out seven notes (out of 12) and
created W's and H's to describe 2 spaces
and 1/2 spaces (known in music as 'intervals') respectively.

This is BEYOND CONFUSING and AIMS TO CONFUSE
thus making it more difficult to express music
the way it should be...

Echometry suggests that sound is understood in
twelve different ascending or descending steps as
seen on the "sound clock."

Five basic sound triangles = 12

FIVE (MUSICAL) FEELINGS

Red = Happy (4-3-5)
Green = Sad (3-4-5)
Blue = Blue (3-3-3-3 or 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 or 2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1)
Black = Indifferent (4-4-4 or 2-2-2-2-2-2)
Yellow = Ambiguous (5-2-5)

The combination of these FIVE feelings when PRINTED on any
musical instrument is what the whole world calls
MELODY - HARMONY ... MUSIC !!
